WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
I like to collect matches because they capture a moment in time. Usually I grab a matchbook or box after I’ve had an excellent meal at a given restaurant or a night of great conversation at a hotel bar whilst traveling. I love to see how restaurateurs or hoteliers design these little mementos. It says a lot about you as a storyteller, how much thought and effort you put into something that you know is being given for free. The places where the hospitality quotient is high usually have great matches.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
My favorite matchbox is definitely the one from @hotelcostes. It’s chic in that it’s restrained. A patina’d cream color that suggests an earned in sensuality. The front is a gorgeous photograph of ripening apples. The box just oozes desire. I grabbed it while living in Paris in 2017 — it was during fashion week which is admittedly cliché but I feel like that hotel is an absolutely spectacle during that week in all the right ways.
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
I enjoy my matches in the comfort of my apartment, usually to light my fire.
