WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
I like to have a memento of a fun evening — whether it’s a neighborhood watering hole or a hotel on the other side of the world. I don’t display a ton of personal photographs, so this is a nice way to have a sentimental memory of a place my husband and I loved. I remember details from every matchbook — who I was with, what we did. I don’t ever grab a matchbook if we had a bad experience — who wants to remember that?
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
My all-time favorite is from @bocagrande in Barcelona. My husband grabbed it absentmindedly while we were there on our honeymoon and found it in his pocket once we were home. That was the start of our collection! \r\nI also have one I love from @goodluckbarla in Los Feliz, which just closed this year. It was a neighborhood icon and we were sad to see it go.
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
I keep them displayed in a bowl on our coffee table, and will switch the bowl or tray whenever I restyle the space. I will only use them if we have duplicates… it seems silly that they don’t get used up, but I want them to last a long time!
