WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
I started collecting matches as a way of (subconsciously) copying my mom, who had a huge basket full of matches from her 10 years living in NYC in her 20s. I’m also a generally nostalgic person, and I love matches as a way of remembering not just a memorable place but the special people you were there with.
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
My collection mostly serves the purpose of being an aesthetically pleasing addition to my little Lower East Side studio, stored in old @diptyque and @lelabofragrances candle jars (the bigger the better), but I also try to take more than one matchbook from certain places so I don’t feel badly about, you know, actually using some to light some candles (which will eventually serve as storage for future match finds — it’s an endless cycle.)
