WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
I started collecting matches at a very young age. I remember my grandparents coming back from their long travels around the world, always picking up a matchbox from every hotel or restaurant or club they visited. And so this addiction (and most of their collection of hundreds of matchboxes) was passed on to me. The thing I love the most about matches is that they do capture perfectly my moments in my places, nearly always with my people. And matches also tell a lot about the storytelling of these places.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
It’s so difficult to choose but let me name you some of my favorite ones. The one from @villadestelakecomo: it’s super chic in that dark blue with the coat of arms on a side and the name and location on the other. They don’t even need to put the hotel address cause everyone knows where Villa d’Este is. I spend most of my time off at Lake Como so I am particularly attached to this place. I also like the one from the @boweryhotel in NYC, the one from @theniceguy in LA and from the @bevhillshotel: they all remind me of happy times and take me back immediately there.
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
I like my matches to be around me in the comfort of my apartment in Milan or my house at Lake Como, and I rarely use them to light the fireplace or the candles. I tend to avoid using them but I always find one matchbox in the pocket of my coats or jackets. Feels so good lighting someone’s cigarette with a match from my collection.
