WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
I’ve been collecting matches since I was a teenager when I first started traveling as a way to have a memory of the places I visited. At one point the collection grew so much that I started keeping them in clear glass vases so I could see them all the time. It’s a great conversation piece when having guests over. Whenever I go to a restaurant or hotel, the first thing I do is ask if they have matches. I even have friends that ask for matches wherever they go and give them to me. It’s become a real passion of mine.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
Some of my favorite ones are the larger size matchboxes from @casaciprianinyc and @themarkhotelny because they’re really unique. I also love the colorful ones from @thecolonypalmbeach in Palm Beach and @bevhillshotel with the iconic banana leaf design. @santambroeus has a really pretty matchbox as well. The ones from places that are no longer around are super special to me like Le Cirque in NY and Caffè Giacosa in Florence as they both hold a lot of memories for me.
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
I like to keep my matches displayed in glass vases so I can always see them. I enjoy looking at them and thinking of the particular memory of each place and time.
