WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
When I moved to NYC two years ago, I noticed so many restaurants and stores had their own matches - they seem to be a vital part of being a New York staple. Moving here was a lifelong dream of mine that I made happen, so collecting these small tokens feels like paying homage to the establishments that have been able to make it here, too.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
@yves.nyc and @primosnyc: I’m a minimalist who loves a strong, simple design, @_mimi_ny_: I love the vintage feel of the photographs and they’re double-sided with different photos, @thestandard East Village: finding a beautifully illustrated matchbook is such a rarity, @leucanyc: one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants and my absolute favorite design, and my parents’ wedding matchbook: the most meaningful of my collection.
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
My matches serve one of two purposes: either they are burned to keep my apartment smelling amazing, or they are used collectively as a beautiful decor object that doubles as a keepsake.
