WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
I love collecting matches as mementos of significant moments in my life. Being a foodie, it’s fun to cross off restaurants from my list, especially when matches are involved. Looking at my collection instantly recalls the company I shared, the timing of each visit, and even my impression of the meal. I’m excited to grow my collection as I make more memories.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
My favorites are definitely the Ruby Foo’s and @cafelalo matchbooks. I grew up going to these UWS establishments which have sadly closed. I had these matchbooks in my apartment growing up, but I didn’t think much of them. Now, as a phillumenist and nostalgic person, these matchbooks, which I sourced on eBay, ignite fond memories of childhood through something I love. I also adore my @pastisnyc one—it’s so beautiful and fits so well with the current tennis trend!
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
I’m weird about my matches and don’t even use them! I want the matchbooks to keep their shape, so I leave all of the matches in them. I just love to look at them and use them as a conversation starter with friends. I even have a piece of matchbook art that I admire every time I walk in my room. I’ve only eaten at 2 of the places and I’m hoping to hit more!
