WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
For me they act as a kind of memento; little snapshots of time manifest in a tangible form. Each holds its own story that sparks a memory of a place, time, person or event.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
The matches from Siwa that I came across only earlier this year have got to be my current fave. They’ve got such a cute, retro feel to them. And hold a number of special memories—a week spent in the middle of the desert right next to the Siwan oasis. I’ve also got to mention my best friend Chiara di Carcaci's matches designed for her brand @smokingjacket.london. She’s just brought out a saucy new edition introducing a new metallic-green colorway.
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
I’ve always loved the act of striking a match—there’s something so cathartic about it. The little cardboard boxes are such an old-school nod to the past. And I love a dose of nostalgia. More often than not they’re used to light a cigarette.
