WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
When I moved to NYC 3 years ago, I noticed that many restaurants and bars would have a bowl of matches at the hostess stand. I decided to start collecting them as a way to remember all of the spots I’ve tried & loved since moving here! They also serve as a practical art piece in my apartment and a conversation starter.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
My first matchbook I ever got was from @jackswifefreda in Soho, which was about a month after I moved to NYC. This matchbook kickstarted my collection and now I will seek out restaurants and bars to go out to, solely because I know they give out matches.
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
My matches are displayed in decorative bowls on my dresser, and I recently glued some of them into shadowbox frames that sit on my dresser. I also love to share the places that I’ve found matches (and places I know give them out) with people on TikTok—which is actually where I first discovered the account OH, WHAT A MATCH! (you guys liked one of my matchbook tiktoks and I immediately had to follow!)—I’ve discovered many New Yorkers share my love of matchbook collecting, so I figured why not share the spots to collect them?
