WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?

Collecting matches is part of my job. I do branding for New York City restaurants and am always in search of a better way to tell the story. For many, a matchbook is a Proustian madeleine, filled with unforgettable memories.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?

I so wish that I could have designed the oversized matches for Longchamps in the 1930s. What's not to love about the chef faces on the match tips—and "luncheon entrees from 50 cents?” I always enjoy designing a matchbook with a wraparound image, like @themermaidnyc, or @giobatta.tivoli, with a pasta chart inside the matchbook (the logo was created in my studio kitchen using a script made from cooked bucatini).

WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?

I rarely use matches to light anything. The restaurants will come and go, but the matches live on in various displays in my studio where they can be admired.
