WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
Matchboxes were a great reminder of restaurants, bars and hotels visited over the years on travels near and far. They were often of a distinctive design and often popped in a large pot at home that brimmed with the lovelies. Matches are vital for lighting fires and igniting a gas stove, not to mention emulating movie stars lighting cigarettes with great elan. Sadly, the pot has diminished as the great world of great matchboxes has somewhat diminished.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
My all favorites are the Scottish Bluebell matches for they are an old design and hark to times past. Sadly, a great many of my favorites have gone up in flames or just been pocketed by folk “ borrowing a light”. I also love a huge box of oversized matches that miraculously never seem to run out and are ace for lighting a plethora of candles on the table.
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
Still fond of the occasional cigarette. I know, but, hay, old habits die hard. But a match is so evocative. And a god send on a beach when lighting a fire to roast a just caught mackerel and sizzle a sausage or three.
