WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?

In a world that digitizes everything, there’s something sacred about a tangible souvenir you can hold onto from a memory. I love everything about the gift of a matchbook offer: seeing their unique design, having a token to remember special moments by, and the nostalgia of a hobby I’ve never grown out of.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?

The Pink Cabana matchbook stands out to me because it was one of the first places that sparked the idea for Opulist — a reminder of how powerful beauty in architecture and design can be, and how deeply it affects us. Design-wise, I love the Lafayette and @pearlboxnyc matchbooks, and @inness_ny feels especially meaningful as a token from a very special moment in my Opulist journey.

WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?

For now, I patiently collect them in bowls in a drawer until I decide how I want to display them. I never use the matches, and I love incorporating them into creative photo shoots by layering their images over the photos I took at each location (inspired by another IG account!). They’re some of my most prized souvenirs, and I can’t wait to keep collecting them forever.
