MATCH OF THE DAY

Pearl & Misha

Roommates and newly moved to NYC, they host monthly dinner gatherings around their wooden IKEA table @hernameisnala

WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?

Each matchbox is a small keepsake or memento; they all have stories to tell. Although it’s always great to get a really beautifully designed matchbook, sometimes it’s not even the actual matchbook itself, but the stories behind them, the places we picked them up, or the people we were with. We might be digging around our bag for our wallet here in New York, when our fingers linger on a matchbook we knicked from a café in Paris and it’s crazy how this little rectangular box can take us right back to sitting at those street facing tables in Le Marais.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?

@flamingo_estate: Misha grabbed this in the @chandeliercreative Penthouse bathroom, the sentiment is that both of us are very big fans of Chandelier Creative and to have been able to be in their atmosphere was just so incredible. Flamingo Estate is one of their properties in California and though neither of us have been lucky enough to visit, we keep it as an aspirational reminder, sort of like a mini dream landmark haha. @dsanddurga: We received this matchbook as part of a gift set as a housewarming gift from a close friend/mentor figure. She’s been such a big part in making our New York journey so exciting, always opening doors and opportunities for both of us. And her places to eat and drink recommendations are not to be taken lightly either. @pastisnyc: From the most decadent French meal & date night I’ve had in the city thus far. I indulged in the ambiance of both Paris and New York at once — neither overpowering the other, which is an absolutely rare and incredible feeling.

WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?

Lighting taper candles to complete the table-scape at @hernameisnala's dinner parties.
