WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?

I like matches because they're a physical marker of a place — like a postcard. Whether that be a restaurant, bar, store, museum — they remind me of places and spaces I've been to. I also love that they are a vehicle for design, designating themselves as a memento or objet d’art.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?

I've collected matches from all over the place for the longest time and sadly lost the majority of them in a recent move to a new apartment. I didn't realize how special they were to me until they were gone — it felt like years of physical souvenirs disappeared. In a way, I guess it's the sign of a new beginning & a fresh collection. I'd have to say that my favorite one has to be from @gjelinarestaurant — an L.A. favorite that I have many memories evenings filled with wine and olives and laughter.

WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?

I enjoy my matches at the moment before I light a candle — the ritual of striking the match, watching a flame ignite and the lighting of a wick. I also visually enjoy them, sprinkling them around as little memorable art objects.
