WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
For aesthetics. I like thoughtful details. A chicly designed box of matches adds personality to a space. Reminds me of a great time had, and can even act as a conversational piece amongst like-minded friends.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
@sunset_tower: the typography transports me to another time. Understated elegance at its best. I appreciate the minimalist design and the white-tipped matches. Everything about this tiny treasure feels like a luxury. Just touching the box feels special, and to hail from such an iconic institution in Hollywood makes this little box that much more captivating. Monkey Bar: this matchbox is 13-years-old, and I love the illustration. I brought these matches from NY to Paris because each captures a different period of my life that has special meaning. I remember the first time I had dinner at Monkey Bar, it felt like a coming-of-age moment. Fresh out of college, I thought I was so cool to be dining at @graydon.carter's new restaurant, even if it meant going to Midtown. Worth it for the monkey bread and clearly, this box of matches.
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
I don’t use them often or even at all. It’s more so for the look and smile each brings when within eyesight. A moment of nostalgia, which feels comforting as I establish a new life in a different country. A Paris match collection has certainly commenced, and it’s already quite special to me too. I’ve included one of my favorites in this mix.
