WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?

I started collecting matches when I began trying new restaurants and bars on weekends. Many times, matches would be available and when I’d find them it was like the prize at the end of a scavenger hunt. The matches I’ve collected also act as tiny relics of special moments and always transport me back to the situation I got it in. Above all else, they’re timeless and look incredibly chic on a coffee table.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?

This matchbook is from my favorite restaurant in Milano called @giacomo_milano. I go to Italy every year to visit friends and family and whenever I’m in Milano it’s a must-go. My favorite is a raspberry tart they serve at the end with tiny raspberries. I’ve dreamed of going to Japan since the third grade and finally got to go this Summer. I got this match the first day at a tiny old bar in Ginza with my brother. It reminds me of lots of kiwi martinis and wandering around Tokyo all night just observing the magic of the city.

WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?

I keep them on a vintage perfume tray that was my Memom’s at the front door of my apartment. They’re scattered messily all over the tray with a bunch of other knick-knack objects I’ve collected. I don’t ever really use them because I never want to throw them out, it’s like throwing out a photograph! So they’re mainly just for aesthetic purposes.
