WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
My mom started collecting when she and her best friend drove from Ecuador to New York in a VW Bug when they were 21 years old (40 years ago!). She amassed a huge collection that was sadly destroyed 3 years ago. It feels like it’s my duty to keep the tradition going.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
I do tend to judge a matchbook by its cover! At the moment my two faves are from @ritzparis and from @therow's showroom. The box from the Ritz is so elegant with the gold embossed text and it reminds me of my first trip to Paris. I love the matchbox from the Row because it’s so minimal and rare and it was a gift from a very dear friend. Special shoutout to the 70’s nudes matches from Zeitgeist in San Francisco!
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
I have a rule that I have to get two of each matchbook — one to use and one to save. The ones I save live in a vintage tennis tournament trophy on my coffee table.
