WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
Matches have this unique power to create fire — an element that is just as mesmerizing as it is dangerous. I like the fact that they have this duality between an object capable of setting the room ablaze, but also of being able to light us up in the dark. All in such a small object, so delicate, all in finesse.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
Without a doubt, my favorites are those created by the label @moustiquearles—which means mosquito—in reference to Arles, the city where I am from, known for its countless number of mosquitoes in the summer! I love the aesthetic of its box, co-created with local artists, and the matches themselves with their slender allure. I also like, in two diametrically opposed styles, the white matches from @maisonlabougie and, conversely, the ultra black @ysl ones. Again, these are two styles that represent the matchstick paradox.
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
I like to see them everyday, in front of my eyes, as an element of decoration. I love to know them around me, just in case, to enlighten me in my moments of doubt. And I adore to hear them crackle, even if I must admit I would rather watch them than use them.
