WHY DO YOU LIKE AND COLLECT MATCHES?
Ever since I was little I loved collecting, so it felt natural to pick up a small pack of matches (or two) from places I've been to. They're a great way to preserve a memory and add some decorative elements to your space simultaneously.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND WHY?
My favorites are the skinny, long rectangular matchboxes (not the ones that fold over because they are too flimsy). I am also attached to the ones I designed for my company and clients. I am choosy with the ones I collect though—my criteria are: the restaurant/bar/place was amazing and I want to have a token of it to bring home; the artwork on the matches is inspiring and I might refer to it later; if I didn't like the place, I won't take the matches ;) or the experience was meaningful and I want a memento.
WHEN AND HOW DO YOU LIKE TO ENJOY YOUR MATCHES?
I have them in a decorative jar (as pictured) and scattered throughout my apartment in meaningful areas (i.e. my favorite bar matches of my bar or restaurant in the kitchen). I like to look and not touch so as to not use them all up! This is why I also have three matchbook photographs framed in my kitchen from @matchbookdiaries of places that are meaningful to me.
